Aubrey has a friend named Tessa who recruited her to join a robotics team this fall. This whole world of robotics is totally new to us, so we are learning as we go. There is more to the team than just robotics; there is also a project they create around this year's theme, which is "Into Orbit." There are 10 girls, ages 9 - 14, on their team, "The Return of Girlz Got Skillz." (Last year the all girls team was called "Girlz Got Skillz.")
Their first competition was this Saturday in Ontario. The teams are judged in four different areas--core values, their project, robot design, and robot game matches (how their robot actually performs.) It was an all day event; however, spectators are only allowed to watch the robot game matches. Each team's robot is judged in 3 separate matches, lasting 2 1/2 minutes each. So it was a long day for Jeff and I to only watch 7 1/2 minutes of action. But Aubrey's team won the two most important awards--robot performance and overall champions! This means they're going to the state competition in Twin Falls on January 12th. :)
